Providing immigration services for all peoples by doing outreach, screening to ascertain client eligibility for immigration benefits, assisting with applying for appropriate immigration benefits, and doing sound case management of immigration cases; staying current on immigration law by reading immigration law list serves and websites, and attending training;
American Arab Heritage Council (AAHC)
Duties: Carry out the vision and goals of the AAHC Board of Directors; continue AAHC’s work in the community by building strong programs including cultural awareness and identity for American Arab peoples; uniting families; teaching English; assisting newcomers with education so that they may obtain gainful employment; encouraging and facilitating newcomer involvement in all civil society functions including naturalization, registering to vote, voting, being active in local government, their children’s school community, and actively participating in their chosen faith; providing immigration services for all peoples by doing outreach, screening to ascertain client eligibility for immigration benefits, assisting with applying for appropriate immigration benefits, and doing sound case management of immigration cases; staying current on immigration law by reading immigration law listserves and websites, and attending training; pay careful attention to the managerial functions of running AAHC including actively researching and soliciting grant funding from local, state, and federal government and private charitable sources; overseeing various fundraising events.

Citizenship Application & Test, Know your Rights-What and Police can ask you, Travel Documents, employment.
10-16-2009: Attended U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services Annual Stakeholders Meeting. The presenters were the staff of District 12 Detroit District Office. The presenters were from FDNS Unit, Citizenship Unit, Adjustment Unit and the USCIS Associate regional Council.
8-27-2009: Participated in Webinar Training on August 27, 2009; the training was sponsored by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLNIC). The training was about the update from Capitol Hill – Prospects for Immigration Reforms.
8-(12-19)-2009: Attended ICIRR / CLINIC / ILRC 2009 Immigration Training in Chicago, IL. This intensive six-day training was designed to provide staff working at not-for-profit agencies the experience in Immigration Law services. The training was very interactive with individual and group exercises. The training included a range of immigration topics: legal research and writing, visa processing, citizenship and naturalization, political asylum, legal defenses to removal, the grounds of inadmissibility and deportability, as well as practice in interviewing clients, case management, and negotiation. The training was presented by several Attorneys from ICIRR/CLINIC/ILRC and others.
7-(29, 30)-2009: Attended a CLINIC Citizenship and Naturalization Training in Boston, MA, on July 29, 30, 2009. This intensive two-day training course covered acquisition and derivation of citizenship, the requirements for naturalization, including residence, physical presence, good moral character, civics and requirements, the application process and denials and appeals. The training was very interactive with individual and group exercises. The training was presented by CLINIC Attorneys Susan Schreiber and Kristina Karpinski.
7-22-2009: Participated in Webinar Training on July 22, 2009 sponsored by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLNIC). The topic was “Managing Financial Performance of a Legal Immigration Program”.
7-(15-17),2009: Attended a CLINIC Family-Based Immigration Training in Kansas City, MO, on July 15, 16, and 17, 2009. This two-day training on July 15-16 included in-depth coverage of selected topics in family-based review of the Child Status Protection Act; priority date retention and conversion; applying for residency through adjustment of status and consular processing; administrative motion to reopen and appeals to the AAO; and updates on inadmissibility issues and affidavit of support. On July 17, I participated in a tour to the National Benefits and National Records Centers. We heard presentations by supervisory staff about centers operations.
7-1-2009: Participated in Webinar Training on July 1, 2009 sponsored by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLNIC). The topic was “Part 2: Basics on Family-Based Immigration”.
6-(25-26),2009: Attended a CLINIC introduction to Immigration Training in Dallas, Texas on June 25-26, 2009. This introduction to Immigration Training course was a two-day basic overview of Immigration Law Topics covered included immigration through marriage and other family relationships; the application process for permanent residence; grounds of inadmissibility; affidavits of support; remedies under the Violence Against Women Act; U visas for victims of serious crimes; citizenship; and BIA recognition and accreditation. Recent changes to the law were included. The training was presented by Charles Wheeler, director, Training and Legal Support Section, CLINIC, and Sarah Bronstein, attorney with CLINIC.

5-27-2009: Attended conference call (American Citizens’ Services)/The United States Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs Overseas Citizen’s Services hosted a Conference Call with Arab-American organizations. The conference call highlighted some of the services provided by the office American Citizen’s Services.
2-2-2009: Participated in Webinar Training on February 2, 2009, the training was sponsored by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLNIC). The training was about Building Agency Support for an Immigration Legal Program
9-5-2008: Participated in Webinar Training on September 5, 2009, the training was sponsored by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLNIC). The training was about preparing for the New Citizenship Test Training.
9-2-2008: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), discussion in preparation to discuss implementation of the new test and other educational initiatives of the USCIS office of Citizenship. The presenter was Alfonso Aguilar, Chief, office of citizenship.

Other topics were discussed: Citizenship Application & Test, Know your Rights-What and Police can ask you, Travel Documents, employment.
